health benefits of tea

As well as tasting darn good, a cup of tea can actually help keep you healthy.

Tea is 99% water so it helps you stay hydrated.  Contrary to popular belief, tea does count as part of your daily water intake.  Various studies have been conducted that have established this, so no need to feel guilty about drinking tea rather than water!

Tea contains no calories when enjoyed on its own, and only 13 calories if semi-skimmed milk is added.  This means that  tea is a great way to maintain a healthy weight as part of a balanced diet.   Some initial studies have indicated that green tea may actually help with weight loss through speeding up fat oxidation - however more work is needed before this can be established conclusively. Watch this space.

One of the major benefits of tea is the high levels of antioxidants (flavenoids). Antioxidants are thought to have a whole host of benefits, from cancer preventative effects to maintenaince of a healthy heart.

A cup of tea provides important vitamins & minerals including Potassium, Manganese, Niacin and vitamin B2.

These nutrients enable your body to regulate body fluids,  maintain good vision, build tissue, support brain and nerve function and release energy from food. Tea also includes fluoride which is essential for maintaining strong teeth.

Another benefit of tea is that it contains less than half the level of caffeine found in coffee.
